Trump’s evangelical Baptist pastor, Robert Jeffress, has determined that God has given President Trump permission to attack North Korea, and to “take out” its leader Kim Jong Un.
“When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.” The biblical passage Romans 13 gives the government authority to deal with evildoers, Jeffress said. “That gives the government … the authority to do whatever, whether it’s assassination, capital punishment or evil punishment to quell the actions of evildoers like Kim Jong Un,” he said.
When asked if he wanted the president to embody Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount (where Jesus said “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”) Jeffrerss responded “absolutely not”.
Many people question Trump’s choices when it comes to whom he associates with, and Jeffress is no stranger to controversy. On November 4, 2012, Jeffress declared that then President Obama WAS NOT the Anti-Christ because his poll numbers were not high enough. He said “One reason I know he’s not the Antichrist is the Antichrist is going to have much higher poll numbers when he comes. President Obama is not the Antichrist. But what I am saying is this: the course he is choosing to lead our nation is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist.”
Jeffress met with Trump last month in the Oval Office which included a blessing. Jeffress said that now health care is off the table, evangelicals are hoping for tax reform. Also in July, his church choir and orchestra performed a song called “Make America Great Again” at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C., where Trump was in attendance.
