“Every time he sees me he says I didn’t do that, and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” Trump told reporters. And thus Donald Trump has decided to trust the word of Vladimir Putin, over multiple US Intelligence agencies who are convinced Putin ordered interference in last year’s elections.
Trump made the comment after he and Putin met briefly at a summit in Vietnam on Saturday and agreed on a statement supporting a political solution for Syria. Putin reiterated the denials of interference, Trump said.
U.S. intelligence agencies compiled a report which found Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. But hey, why trust your own Intelligence agencies over a known thug? Why trust the agencies whose sole purpose is to protect the interest of the United States? Why take the word of dedicated US citizens, when you can take the work of a former KGB agent?
