Embattled White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer tendered his resignation to President Trump today. It was rumored that Spicer resigned after learning of Trump’s appointment of Anthony Scaramucci as the new White House Communications Director. It was reported by the New York Times that during a conversation with Trump, Spicer “vehemently disagreed” with the decision to hire Scaramucci. It has also been reported that Scaramucci will report directly to Trump, and not to the Chief of Staff as Spicer did.
Scaramucci is a graduate of both Tufts University and Harvard law school. He previously worked for Goldman Sachs on Wall Street before forming his own hedge fund company. Scaramucci, AKA “The Mooch”, has not always been a fan of Trump, and even supported Hillary Clinton early in the election. During a 2015 Fox News appearance, Scaramucci called Trump a “hack politician” whose rhetoric is “anti-American and very, very divisive.” He also suggested Trump should “cut it out now” and “stop all this crazy rhetoric.” Perhaps as the new Communications Director, he can start the process.
