The final score is 23 million

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Offiice today released its finding on Trumpcare, also known as the AHCA.  The final verdict is that 23 million fewer Americans will be covered by the plan in its’ current form.  The plan will also decrease the deficit by $119 billion over the next ten years.  Premiums are expected to go up 20% in 2018, 5% in 2019 and then remain steady for the next few years after that.  A significant portion of the premium savings will be coming from a reduction in benefits, as the AHCA allows for the elimination of many of the essential benefits now required under Obamacare.

Paul Ryan, Republican Speaker of the House couldn’t have been happier, stating “the American Health Care Act achieves our mission: lowering premiums and lowering the deficit.”   Lowering the deficit certainly makes sense as if you are subsidizing 23 million fewer plans, especially plans that are not as good, you will be paying less for them.

Change in premiums are dependent on where you live, your age, and income.  Poor, elderly people are expected to take the biggest hit, with some premiums for people in their 60’s increasing over $10,000 per year (that’s not a $10,000 premium, that’s an increase of $10,000 over current premiums).

A recent poll performed by ABC\The Washington Post released April 25, 2017 found that 61% of Americans do not want to replace Obamacare, they want to fix what is wrong with it.  Only 37% said that Obamacare should be replaced.

Is having 23 million more American without health insurance a beautiful picture?
