Most of the White House, and most of America were caught off-gaurd this evening when South Korean security advisors announce President Trump had agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The announcement was held outside the White House after security adviser Chung Eui-yong had met with Trump.
It was reported that Trump exclaimed “I’ll do it” when presented with the offer for a meeting. Normally, a president would consult with his own security advisors and Secretary of State to formulate a measured response before accepting such an invitation. Trump did not do that. Subsequently, aides were left scambling to pkan the meeting, and to formulate objectives and possible conditions.
It was initially stipulated that the meeting be held “by May”, but within hours a White House spokesperson contridicted that expectation by stating the meeting would be held at “an appropriate time”. It is not currently known where, when or who would attend the meeting. Kim Jong Un has referred to Trump as a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard”.
