Happy Valentines Melania! President Trump’s personal lawyer admitted today that he wrote a check to Porn Star Stormy Daniels in the amount of $130,000 shortly before the Presidential election. The payment was reportedly hush money to keep Daniels from elaborating on her 2006 affair with Donald Trump the Porn Star reported in 2011.
In a carefully worded statement issued late Tuesday night, Michael Cohen said he used “my own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000” to Stephanie Clifford (Stormy Daniels real name). Cohen said that neither the “Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign” reimbursed him for the payment, but his statement does not address if Trump himself, or any other person associated with the President (i.e. Donald Jr.) had reimburssed the lawyer.
The admission came after a complaint was filed with the Federal Election Commission accusing Cohen of violating federal election laws. A watchdog group claimed that the Trump Campaign did not report the payment to Daniels as an expense. Federal law requires the campaign to report all payments made to entities or persons whereby the campaign would benefit. The watchdog group believes that any payment made to Daniels would have benfited the campaign as news of the affair would have hurt Trump’s chances of winning the election.
When The Wall Street Journal first reported the payment to the porn actress in mid-January, Cohen stated that both the President and Daniels denied the affair. Many law experts beleive that Cohen may have violated the terms of the agreement with Daniels by disclosing that he made a payment to her, hence Daniels may now be free to fully discuss the affair.
