The “Mooch” picks a curious role model

07/27/2017

Newly appointed White House Director of Communications Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci, today took time to call CNN to talk about White House leaks.  Scaramucci referred the White House staff to “stinking fish”, and implied that only he and the President don’t stink.

In reference to the White House staff, he went on to say “Why don’t you honor the job?” “Remember Joe Paterno? What would he say? Act like you’ve been there before. Act with honor and dignity and respect, and hold the confidence of the presidency and his office.”

As it happens, Joe Paterno, was fired from his job as head football coach at Penn State for failing to properly report defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse of dozens of children. After his death, it was revealed that not only had Paterno failed to report the abuse, he had worked to actively cover up the abuse so that it didn’t disgrace Sandusky or the football program.

Some thought it strange that the new Director of Communications would cite a person who is known for covering up abuses of his organization as a role model of how his staff should act and behave.  Was he implying the staff should consider it honorable and dignified to cover up illegal and immoral acts of the administration?
